Weatherby's
Weatherby's is located on Grand Lake
Stream in Downeast Maine and is one
of the oldest and most famous fishing
lodges in the country. We are now
open through October for upland bird
hunting. Our origins stem from the
nineteenth century, and yearly visits
have become a way of life for many
sportsmen looking for a remote fishing
experience. As your hosts, we are
proud to be known among sportsmen
worldwide for our friendliness and
hospitality. We are committed to providing
you with exceptional service and quality
accommodations that will make your
vacation not just a trip, but an experience,
one that you will want to pass along
to your children and grandchildren.
Weatherby’s
sits on the edge of more than 1 million
acres of forestland with hundreds
of miles of gravel roads, allowing
access to some of the best grouse
coverts in the east. Opportunities
abound for hunting over both pointing
and flushing breeds. Spend a day or
a week chasing the king of all game
birds, the ruffed grouse, in the grandeur
of a downeast autumn.
Located
in the heart of the Atlantic
flyway, Weatherby’s also
provides opportunities for quality
woodcock shooting. Whether in
alder runs surrounding our countless
wetlands, on aspen and birch
studded hillsides, or around
abandoned farms and orchards,
the whimsical and legendary
timberdoodle is certain to provide
sport for the upland hunter.
Combine a day of grouse and
woodcock hunting, a local Registered
Maine Guide (not required),
good dogs and the glory of a
crisp fall day, and you are guaranteed
an experience that will be remembered
for a lifetime. |

Honey
Run Shorthairs
We have been breeding German Shorthaired
Pointers since 1989. We breed for
natural hunting abilities and correct
conformation according to the Breed
Standard. Our dogs have competed in
AKC All Breed Shows, AKC Field Trials,
AKC Hunting Tests, AKC Obedience Trials,
NSTRA (National Shoot to Retrieve)
and NAVHDA (North America Versatile
Hunting Dog Association). It is our
primary goal to produce great hunting
dogs that will conform to the type
of hunting you desire. Our dogs are
close to medium range hunters. Our
dogs are raised in our home and well
socialized. We will not place any
pup that is not allowed to live in
the home with family members. We only
produce one or two litters a year,
and place them in hunting / companion
homes. The pups are easy to train
and easy to live with. Our pups are
sold with a lifetime health guarantee,
warranted for hereditary conditions
such as CHD, Epilepsy, and others.
We are always available for questions
and any help that we can supply.
We only train dogs that we have bred.
We believe that you, as the owner,
should have an active part in the
training of your puppy. We hold "training
days" throughout the year and
try to accommodate puppy owners as
often as we can. |

Upland
Outfitters Review
Outdoorsman's Edges is right here
in Central/Coastal Maine. I arranged
to meet with the knife maker Mike
(an avid outdoorsman, fellow Maine
Guide, and member of Upland Talk
bulletin board) and was suitably
impressed with what I saw. Needless
to say a small game knife named "The
Grouse"
for me and a big game knife named
"The Whitetail" for partner
Pete are on order. The blades are
made with 440C Stainless Steel which
holds a nice edge and can also be
ordered in high carbon steel from
Germany or the classic "Russell
Green River" blades-all in
endless configurations. These
are custom built knives designed
specifically for you, one-at-a
-time. He offers knives such as "The
Blacktail Skinner",
"The Moose", or "The
Salmon", amongst others. Mike
creates comfortable, custom handles
and can work with bone, antler,
black walnut (my choice), ebony
(Petes choice), or just about any
wood you desire or can supply.
The handles are finished with a
waterproof, durable, oil finish.
They are supplied with a rugged,
hand-sewn, deer hide sheath. In
addition Mike creates double-sided
box calls, one of which I hope
to be using next year on a Spring
gobbler. |
