"If
you're like me you long for the crisp days of fall
with the aroma of decaying leaves, the rush of
a grouse flush and the ballet of the woodcock rise.
We are for the most part a solitary group, a minority
if you wish, disciples of uncivilized places and
wild birds"
We are fast approaching the
3-year anniversary of the launching
of Upland Journal Online Magazine
(UJ). This Online Magazine
and Bulletin Board community
continues to grow steadily.
The heart-and-soul of UJ
as always is the Upland
Talk Bulletin Board. We now boast
close to 2000 registered Members
and countless Guests and Visitors.
This active and expansive board
has become THE place to share
knowledge, gain information,
and just plain shoot the breeze.
It's a rare and unique meeting
place and I'm fiercely protective
of it and its members.
"UJ get-togethers" have
become a common occurrence.
Folks who have met on UJ gather
from all corners of the country
for Bird Hunts, Skeet Shooting,
Sporting Clays, Dog Training,
and Cookouts or just to meet
and enjoy one another's company.
Members make special vacation
and hunting trip plans in order
to meet-up with fellow UJ upland
bird hunting enthusiasts.
The Subscription/Donations format I created early on has
helped in buoying the site
and bulletin board, allowing
it to maintain a stable presence
on the web. I plan on keeping
this basic structure for the
time being but with additional
perks and incentives for “Contributing
Members.” You can
review the new 2005 UJ Business
Plan on the bulletin board
for additional information.
I
was pleased to launch the
most ambitious website development
to date with a new Departments section to the Online Magazine;
Upland News, Gundogs, Shotguns & Shooting,
Field Gear, Upland Pantry,
Book Reviews and Upland Life.
The goal is to have new articles,
stories and resource links
added to these sections on
a regular basis, many provided
by members of the bulletin
board. A cross-promotion with
the veterinary website gundogdoc.com
adds yet another important
resource to the site.
The much-anticipated Upland
Gear store is open for business
with new UJ merchandise and
bird hunting products being
added continuously.
I still don't feel as though
we have even scratched the
surface to the potential of
this web adventure. I thank
all of those who have participated
on the Upland Talk bulletin
board and supported Upland
Journal in the past year. Again,
without all of you this would
be just a barren Covert drifting
in cyberspace.
